SIMEC Mining, a wholly owned subsidiary of GFG Alliance has operations in Whyalla, South Australia and Tahmoor, New South Wales. Our commodity portfolio consists of mining and mineral processing plants from pit to port. Tahmoor Colliery is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Tahmoor Colliery has been in operation since 1979 and has a total workforce of approximately 350 personnel. Tahmoor Colliery is located near the scenic Southern Highlands of NSW, and only a short 45-minute drive to the idyllic beaches of the South Coast NSW.

We are currently seeking an experienced Control Room Operator to join Tahmoor Colliery. Reporting to the Production Manager, you will be responsible for the timely processing, communication and recording of information necessary for the safe, compliant and efficient operation of the mine.

Your duties with involve:

  • Maintain working knowledge of the mine layout and personnel locations;
  • Oversee the performance of equipment and functions with respect to surface, outbye, development, gas drainage and longwall areas including but not limited to: gas levels, airflows, alarm systems, communication systems etc.
  • Conduct work in accordance with statutory and legislative responsibilities;
  • Promote compliance of company policies and procedures, and place a strong emphasis on safety requirements;
  • Work as part of a team to continually implement business improvement opportunities.

The successful candidate will possess at least 5+years working experience within the Underground Coal Mining industry. You will have a sound understanding of WHS legislative requirements and safety management systems. Your essential attributes will include attention to detail, excellent interpersonal skills, safety focussed, and the ability to work in a high pressured environment.
