The Opportunity
We currently have an opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our team at the Kundana Operation in Kalgoorlie on an 8:6 roster. If you are looking at advancing your career into becoming an expert in high stress mining, then this an excellent opportunity for you. NSR are investing in the latest technical research in high stress mining including ground support testing & design, non-linear numerical modelling, and structural identification from seismic response.
Northern Star operates several underground mines in the Kalgoorlie area each with their own geotechnical challenges. This is a challenging and exciting role which allows you to utilise your previous skills and experience whilst building relationships within all levels of the business. The contribution of this position will be significant in the ongoing success of the operation
The Geotechnical Engineer reports to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer and is part of larger regional team that offers mentoring and excellent technical professional development opportunities. Your primary role is to provide technical support and assistance to the mining operations with regards to mine planning, design and geotechnical support to optimise the mine operations.
This role is a residential role, requiring the successful incumbent to reside in Kalgoorlie or the local area.
Your Skills
- Degree in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent)
- A Minimum 5 years’ experience including 2 years’ relevant UG Mining experience in a Geotechnical focused role.
- Knowledge of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations.
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated practical and technical Geotechnical skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use specialised Geotechnical hardware and software, including Map3D, the RocScience suite, as well as specialised seismic software packages.
- Proficient in the use of Datamine software.
- Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
