The Role:

The Gruyere gold deposit in Western Australia is one of Australia’s most exciting new gold projects.  Gold Road Resources and Gold Fields are proud to have an established 50/50 JV partnership over Gruyere. With Gold Fields as the JV manager, the team at Gruyere have hit the ground running and are working hard to achieve first gold production in early 2019.

Here is an opportunity to use the skills you have established to set the geotechnical standards at Gruyere.

As a key member of the mining department you will be responsible for ground control management across the open pit operation. Working with the team to safely deliver production you will be able to establish the geotechnical processes the way they should be. Beyond covering the day-to-day requirements you will get to evaluate opportunities of strategic importance to the future of the site, including evaluation of satellite deposits and life of mine design inputs.

This role is offered on an 8 days on 6 days off roster and is Fly in Fly out from Perth. Flexibility around this roster will be required, details of which will be discussed with applicants who progress to the interview stage.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Always act in a manner that seeks to enhance the strong safety culture and performance of Gold Fields and ensures that the Vital Behaviours program is supported and strengthened.
  • Undertake projects to ensure slope stability or to optimise overall wall angles.
  • Collect geotechnical data to support the provision of parameters to mine design and planning.
  • Proactively identify and manage geotechnical risks within the operation and develop and maintain systems to monitor and manage these.
  • Day-to-day production tasks relating to geotechnical engineering across the site.
  • Proactive communication of geotechnical issues to management and the workforce.

Key factors to your success include:

  • Bachelor Degree in Geological Engineering or other relevant qualifications.
  • 2 plus years’ experience in geotechnical engineering in an open pit mining environment.
  • Exposure to a variety of geotechnical modelling and analysis techniques.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and mining software such as Deswik, Rocscience, Map3D, mXrap.
