The West Gate Tunnel is a partnership between the Victorian Government and Transurban. The Joint Venture has been chosen as the preferred contractor for construction, which will begin in 2018 following planning assessment. 

About the Project

The West Gate Tunnel Project is a city-shaping project that will deliver a vital alternative to the West Gate Bridge, provide quicker and safer journeys, and remove thousands of trucks off residential streets. The project will include:

• Widening the West Gate Freeway from eight lanes to 12 between the M80 Ring Road and Williamstown Road;
• Building a 2.8km eastbound tunnel and a 4km westbound tunnel under Yarraville using 16m Diameter TBMs;
• Constructing a bridge over the Maribyrnong River providing an alternative to the West Gate Bridge;
• Constructing an elevated road along Footscray Road to the Port of Melbourne; and
• Major new cycling and pedestrian paths.

CPBJH JV are currently taking applications for the role of Plant Superintendent. We require suitably experience and qualified candidates to join us in the construction of this iconic and city defining project.

The primary purpose of this role is to manage plant on site in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and the CPBJH JV’s Plant Maintenance System to the optimum levels of utilisation, availability and cost effectiveness.

The indicative duties of this role are:

• Lead the plant team to ensure maintenance activities meet Project objectives in relation to group safety performance, machine availability and maintenance costs
• Ensure an accurate maintenance management recording system is in place (JDE) and direct reports are using appropriately to track all repairs and defects.
• Manage contract labour to achieve plant availability and budget.
• Manage administrative duties for direct and indirect report requirements.
• Review & audit mechanical repairs & services to ensure compliance with WGTP maintenance system and statutory requirements.
• Partner with internal project supervision to ensure Project Plant standards are up held.
• Establish priorities for the repair of equipment in order to optimise maximum utilisation of plant fleet to achieve project targets.
• Working knowledge of a CMMS – Particularly JD Edwards
• Knowledge of relevant Victorian plant legislation
• Manage the civil surface plant workshop and contractors
• Provide feedback regarding Project Plant requirement and process improvements.
• Manage the efficient completion of maintenance tasks & reduction of break down repairs
• Ensure workshop areas are maintained to high housekeeping standards.

Successful applicants will require the following qualifications and experience:

• Mechanical Trade Certificate, Mechanical Engineering qualification or equivalent.
• Extensive and demonstrated knowledge of a range of civil surface plant and equipment.
• Minimum 5-10 years previous construction experience in a similar role
• People and performance management of subcontractors, suppliers and direct labour
• Safety and environment management, resource management.
