Roy Hill represents the next generation of integrated iron ore mine, rail and port ­­­operations in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Situated approximately 340 kilometres south east of Port Hedland, our world-class operation is the only independent iron ore business with West Australian majority ownership. With a defined mineralisation of more than 2.4 billion tonnes of high grade iron ore, enough to sustain a mine life of more than 20 years, Roy Hill is introducing a new wave of innovation, technology and knowledge to Australia’s iron ore industry.

‘The Real Us’

The Roy Hill mine is the largest single-pit iron ore mine in Australia and has an initial mine life of 17 years, with a likely extension beyond that of 12 years. Roy Hill is an owner operator, conventional open pit, drill and blast, truck and excavator bulk mining operation.

Our Mine Operations leadership team is now seeking an Authorised Mine Surveyor to join the group on an 8:6 roster from Perth. This role will be responsible for maintaining and measuring all spatial data and control on the Roy Hill Mine, Process plant, Rail and Port. The position is also responsible for preparing and updating all mine surveying plans on the mine site.

Accountabilities will include: -

• Responsible for using survey equipment supplied by Roy Hill which will include total stations, RTK GPS, laser scanners, photogrammetry, unmanned aerial vehicles, specific high accuracy measuring equipment, and any other speciality equipment required to complete any spatial task required by Roy Hill
• Measure and stake out mining areas as defined by the Mine Plans
• Compile spatial data to update maps and models of all operations across the Mine, Process plant, Rail and Port
• Compile specific high accuracy measurements of critical structures across the Mine, Process plant, Rail and Port to monitor deformation developments
• Provision of spatial control for aerial, terrestrial, and UAV photogrammetry
• Maintain and operate Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to provide critical spatial information across the Mine, Process plant, Rail and Port
• Management of the GPS base station system

‘The Real You’

For you to achieve outstanding results in this position, you will be an experienced Surveyor within Mine Operations along with the following: -

• Advanced Diploma or Tertiary degree in Surveying
• Demonstrated experience working on a mine site
• Grade 2 Authorisation or ability to obtain Grade 2 Authorisation with relevant experience
• Experience with GPS and traditional surveying equipment
• Advanced level of competency in using surveying and mine planning software
