We now have an exciting opportunity available for a GIS Officer to join our Asset Information and Systems team, based in Eagle Farm, Brisbane on a fixed term basis for 12 months.

Reporting to the Asset and Information Systems Manager (QLD), the purpose of this role is to support and actively contribute to the day-to-day operations of the Asset & Information Systems Department, within our Networks & Power division. 

The GIS Technician will be responsible for capturing asset information to the geographic information system (GIS), preparing maps, plans and other mapping products, and maintaining high levels of service delivery.

On a day to day basis, your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing GIS mapping services and CAD services for both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Updating geospatial information systems ensuring cadastral and maintaining current information in corporate systems.
  • Creating reports using data obtained from the GIS system.
  • Creating and printing of ‘as is’ or ‘as built’ drawings from the GIS, including field and other mapping data/products.
  • Assisting with Dial Before You Dig and other mapping/GIS related enquiries as required.
  • Processing Cadastral and address-related information.
  • Maintaining land interest records, and production of mail-outs to landowners on pipeline routes.
  • Quality management – such as performing quality audits or pipeline records.
  • Providing awareness and support to clients about GIS Services.

To excel in this position, you will have the following skills, experience, qualifications and attributes:

  • Knowledge of ESRI Arc GIS software essential (with ArcFM an advantage)
  • Knowledge of fundamental GIS concepts and experience in practising in a GIS environment
  • Demonstrated ability to produce accurate and timely GIS updates and presentations
  • Skills in data capture, data manipulation, and data transformation
  • Preparation of high quality plans, maps and drawings to support APA Group operations.
  • Analysis of the GIS system and creation of reports using data obtained from the GIS.
  • Ability to quickly establish and maintain co-operative and working relationships with others in a team environment
  • Ability to learn and adapt to new environments rapidly
  • Degree qualifications in GIS, Surveying, Engineering, Geography or related discipline highly regarded
  • Experience in a utilities related organisation/company highly regarded
  • Experience with using Model Builder and Python desirable
  • System administration skills in ArcCatalog for improvement of the departmental spatial environment highly regarded
  • Ability to produce technical drawings in AutoCAD highly regarded.
