SIMEC Mining, a wholly owned subsidiary of GFG Alliance has operations in Whyalla, South Australia and Tahmoor, New South Wales. Our commodity portfolio consists of mining and mineral processing plants from pit to port. Tahmoor Colliery is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant producing high quality coking coal for global markets. Tahmoor Colliery has been in operation since 1979 and has a total workforce of approximately 350 personnel. Tahmoor Colliery is located near the scenic Southern Highlands of NSW, and only a short 45-minute drive to the idyllic beaches of the South Coast NSW.

Our Environment and Community team are seeking a qualified Approvals Coordinator. Reporting to the E&C Manager, you will be responsible for the strategic management of subsidence and approval related aspects of the mines development opportunities, whilst maintaining compliance with the mine and legislative requirements.

You will be accountable for:

  • Coordination of subsidence and related issues at Tahmoor Colliery, including inspections and the engagement of contractor support;
  • Prepare approval documentation including subsidence management plans and environmental impact assessments;
  • Participate in community consultation regarding associated subsidence  and planning matters;
  • Liaise with relevant Government department and regulatory authorities in relation to planning approvals and development;
  • Assist in the preparation of land access agreements;
  • Maintain and manage the site register for development consents;
  • Provide technical support for environment and community strategies;
  • Promote compliance of company policies and procedures, and place a strong emphasis on safety requirements;
  • Work as part of a team to continually implement business improvement opportunities.

The successful candidate will possess tertiary qualifications in either Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Planning or relevant discipline. At least 3+years working experience in an environmental approvals or management capacity, preferably with some mining approvals exposure. You will demonstrate or have capacity to develop an understanding of the NSW mine subsidence process, complemented by a strong understanding of environmental and planning legislation. You will have experience with government, community and regulatory authority liaison. ArcGIS skills would be considered advantageous. You will have a high attention to detail and excellent interpersonal skills.
