The Opportunity – Rig Geologist

Based on site, the geologist is responsible for acquisition, quality assurance and processing of a range of geological data. Their focus is on ensuring high quality data that is accurate and consistent. They provide leadership, training and assistance to the geology field team and provide operational support to the exploration supervisor.

Key Accountabilities include:

  • Ensure safe operations of exploration fieldwork in accordance with the relevant standards and operating procedures;
  • Geological data collection, quality control and processing within the database system
  • Maintain an accurate and current geological data base and conduct depth adjustment as required
  • Provide day-to-day leadership, expertise and direction to the field geology team and contract partners;
  • Conduct safety observations and site audits, while promoting a culture of continuous improvement
  • Produce technical reports of geological and geotechnical data to relevant internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate geotechnical, petrographic and coal quality sampling.
  • Geotechnical and geological logging of non-coal cuttings, non-coal core and coal core in digital format (GeoBank).

  • Tertiary qualifications in Geology
  • Able to effectively communicate with multidisciplinary teams
  • High attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Computer Literacy
  • Technical Writing Skill
  • Class C Driver’s License
  • Experience in Coal Exploration Drilling
  • Trained in field determination of Coal Gas Content
