The position outline

As Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for the delivery of accurate and timely payroll processing for nearly 1000 employees in the organisation. This includes the management and administration of the organisations services In-house Payroll functions, providing support to the HR and Finance teams on internal payroll queries, reporting and reconciliation, the provision of advice and continuous improvements on payroll practices and a commitment to produce high quality work with premium customer service to a geographically dispersed workforce.

Reporting to the Finance Manager, your responsibilities will include but won’t be limited to:

  • Manage the end to end payroll for nearly 1,000 employees on a weekly basis
  • Take full responsibility for award and enterprise agreement set up in Time and Attendance & Payroll systems
  • Manage Executive remuneration in an ASX listed organisation
  • Manage and administer employee benefits such as novated leasing arrangements; salary sacrificing and employee share scheme
  • Calculation and payments of Superannuation, PAYG, termination and redundancies, Month end and annual reporting
  • Preparation and lodgement of workers compensation and garnishees
  • Work with external auditing firm for compliance purposes
  • Leading and taking part in various payroll / finance related projects
  • Maintain and ensure that both Payroll, Finance and HR teams are informed of any updates on changes in legislation or requirements that will impact payroll for all regions
  • Assist with the management of Payroll budget and forecasting
  • EBA/Award interpretation for staff and management
  • Manage and process in-house salary packaging
  • Attend EBA meetings and assist where required
  • Assess and improve current payroll systems and processes
  • Dealing with complex queries and reports for payroll staff, employees and management Drive change and continuous improvement to drive efficiencies across the Payroll function

Ideal Candidate Profile

The successful applicant will have proven leadership experience in a similar Payroll Manager position along with the following skills and attributes:

  • Minimum 5 + years’ experience in full function end to end payroll processing in the Retail industry is preferred
  • Proven experience leading and managing the payroll office
  • People Management experience is essential
  • Knowledge of financial and audit requirements (specifically in their application to payroll)
  • Demonstrated experience in leading significant organisational change through strong understanding and exposure to payroll systems and project management
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • The ability to interpret awards and EBA’s and play an active role in recommendations
  • Experience with General Retail Award and Storage Services Award would be preferred
  • Experience working in a medium to large organisation
  • Proven process improvement initiatives
  • Understanding of Time and attendance
  • Strong attention to detail
