Consult Australia is the industry association that represents the business interests of consulting firms operating in the built and natural environment (engineers, architects, project managers, quantity surveyors etc).

We exist to improve the business environment for our member firms by offering a large range of products and services to help them run their business, as well as lobbying governments on their behalf to improve their operating environment.

The Role

Consult Australia is looking for an energetic, motivated and positive person to take on the management of our media and member communications, and build our profile with stakeholders.

In this diverse role you will be required to concurrently manage multiple streams of work without losing focus on the end deliverables—so excellent organisational and time management skills are a must.

Reporting to the Director – Policy and Government Relations, you will be an integral part of the broader Consult Australia team. The successful candidate will be rewarded with a role which offers variety, autonomy and flexibility within a supportive corporate culture. This is a hands-on role that carries significant individual responsibility and requires initiative and a practical approach.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Traditional (print, radio, TV) media management
  • Social Media management
  • Campaign development
  • Management of the communications function, including coordination of fortnightly e-newsletters, a quarterly e-magazine and ad-hoc press releases
  • Editorial production
  • Monitoring and reporting

The Candidate

We are a small team so while you will need to be a hands-on operator with at least 5 years experience in media and communications.

You will also be:

  • Proactive and self-motivated.  You will have enjoyed working in an unstructured environment where you are able to recognise what needs to be done to achieve results and proactively motivate and manage yourself to achieve these results. You demonstrate sound judgement and a common sense approach. You are solutions focussed and see the glass as half-full.

  • Able to quickly grasp complex issues.  Our membership is made up of highly intelligent, successful business owners who face complex issues.  In order to effectively represent their interests you must demonstrate your ability to understand the issues they face and identify solutions.
  • Likable/personable with a high level of emotional intelligence.  A must to fit in with our small, diverse and highly dynamic team.
