Detail information about job Social and multi-media officer. Terms and conditions vacancy

  • Be our Communications champion
  • Help develop the IDEAS brand
  • Make a contribution in the Disability sector

IDEAS supports people with disabilities Australia-wide by providing quality independent information through its websites, a telephone support line, training, consulting, print publications and community events.

One of Australia’s most significant social reforms has resulted in major changes in the Disability sector. Ensuring people with disabilities, their families and carers, have access to information, and are connected to exercise their life choices becomes even more important; and IDEAS is well positioned to be the premier, national provider of independent disability information.

The coming year will be one of change, growth and expansion and we are seeking additional staff to join us. If you are committed to social justice and equity, and understand the needs and rights of people with disability, we are keen to hear from you. As we are a small organisation operating in a rapidly changing environment, we value team-work, initiative and adaptability.

In this role you will be our Communications champion producing resources, articles, essays, speeches, social media content, news content, media releases, reports and corporate communications material. Therefore, you will have advanced writing skills and the ability to design material appropriate to the audience and medium.

You will also:

  • be able to form relationships with mainstream media specialist writers as well as source authors, new contributors and bloggers;
  • have an understanding of social media and digital media platforms for building communities;
  • be part of creating the IDEAS brand in the on-line space as the ‘go to’ resource for independent information for people with disabilities, their families and carers, wherever they live;
  • be a creative and innovative person who is able to construct information and messages in the most effective way;
  • understand accessible and useable digital media (you will be expected to decide on the type of media to use for particular content);
  • have an interest in creating visually pleasing aesthetic in accessible formats;
  • be able to synthesize research and analysis to communicate effectively to external stakeholders;
  • operate with attention to detail;
  • work to tight deadlines; and remain flexible in working with reactive marketing strategies when needed
  • hold, at minimum, an undergraduate degree in Marketing, Communications (Journalism) or Communications (Public Relations), Advertising or equivalent work experience.

This is a unique opportunity to work as part of a small, multi-disciplined and professional team making a contribution to the empowerment of people with disability. Working on a broad range of discrete projects and working to IDEAS’s strategic business plan, you will further develop your generalist corporate communication and social media skills and build experience in the not-for-profit sector.

The position is full-time, based in Canberra, for one year (with the possibility of extension). Travel will be required. SCHADS Award provisions apply, with generous salary packaging available.

If you would like to discuss this role further, please contact Marlissa van Heerwaarden on 0427 011 988.

Applications (including Resume) detailing your skills, qualifications and experience should be emailed to [email protected] by 13 July 2018.

As a member-based organisation, led by people with disability, IDEAS encourages applications from people with disability.
