The role

The role we are seeking is for an engagement, communications or planning professional who can support the design and implementation of a range of effective communications and engagement strategies on urban development projects. 

The Urbanist will undertake the following:

  • Undertake research and help design engagement activities.
  • Draft communication collateral including community updates and newsletters, information panels, responses to community enquiries, fact sheets and frequently asked questions.
  • Draft communications and engagement strategies and implementation plans, with direction from Project Manager.
  • Organise and participate in a range of engagement activities including community and stakeholder meetings, information sessions, focus groups and public exhibitions.
  • Coordinate media advertising, production and delivery of communication materials.
  • Analyse and report on engagement feedback, including drafting Consultation Reports and Meeting Summaries.
  • Prepare fee proposals/expressions of interests under the guidance of a Project Manager.
  • Project manage small projects under the guidance of a Project Director.
  • Work across a wide range of projects and development types across the organisation’s diversified business areas.

To be successful in this role you will require:

  • Tertiary qualification in Public Policy/ Communications/Politics or Built Environment related degree/ discipline or demonstrated relevant industry experience (essential)
  • Up to 3 years’ experience within a government department, peak body or professional services firm of a similar environment (desirable)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent project management, planning & organising skills
  • Adaptability & initiative working across on a wide range of projects in a fast paced environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications – Word, Excel and PowerPoint and online social media tools
  • Familiarity with graphic design applications including Adobe Suite (desirable)
  • Understanding of community engagement practice and IAP2 standards (desirable)
