The Transport Workers’ Union of Australia (TWU) is one of Australia’s leading campaigning trade unions. Our union fights to give transport workers a powerful voice in support of social and economic justice. We are looking for someone to help our members voices be heard and to move the narrative in our industry to ensure safe and fair outcomes for the membership.
Role:
- Support the coordination and execution of the national campaign plan
- Assist in development and execution of campaign communications plans
- Undertake and assist with research, planning, training and event management for campaign actions
Communications:
- Coordinate events, conferences, press conferences, protests and other stunts and campaign actions as required
- Develop digital strategies and tactics to increase online reach
- Develop strategies to move online organizing to offline
- Identify communication needs and materials
- Support media activities as requited
- Provide reports on public relations implications of union and eternal activities.
Team Work:
- Support the training and development of delegates and members across the campaign; including in media and communication training
- Liaise with staff in other departments of the union to achieve success for the campaign.
- Build and manage relationships with staff in TWU state branches.
Essential qualifications, skills and attributes
- A relevant degree (or 5 years experience) in communications and campaigning.
- Strong communications skills, including demonstrated ability to write reports and draft internal and external communications
- The ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- A willingness to understand and implement union growth strategies.
- Good IT communications skills, including experience with Excel and digital communications.
- An interest in learning how to lead other team members.
- A commitment to labour values.
- The role will be based in our national office in Sydney, with interstate travel.
