About the QNMU

The Queensland Nurses and Midwives' Union (QNMU) is the industrial and professional organisation for nurses and midwives working in public and private health and aged care in Queensland.  The QNMU seeks to promote and defend the industrial, professional, social, political and democratic interests of over 58,000 members.  We have over 150 employees including organisers, professionals and administrative personnel, and manage a multi-million dollar operating budget. 

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced and passionate Recruitment Officer for a six (6) month temporary part-time position, working four (4) days per week with the days of work being flexible. 

This position reports to the Director, Campaigning and Communications and will liaise directly with the Aged Care Campaign Project Coordinator and Campaign Coordinator to engage with members and potential members to promote membership of the union and communicate its benefits within the frame of the Aged Care Campaign. The position will also contribute to the overall plans and strategies of the Aged Care Campaign.

The key responsibilities in this role include:-

  • Contributing to the development and implementation of plans, strategies and programs of the Aged Care Campaign;
  • Building activism and engagement among QNMU membership and the broader community in the Aged Care Campaign through on-the-ground campaigning and the use of digital and social media tools and organising strategies;
  • Working closely with key campaigning, organising and communications team members to achieve organisational, campaigning and recruitment goals;
  • Facilitating and assisting with mobilising activity on the ground, such as increasing member turn out at events or rallies;
  • Acting as a ‘digital champion’ among organising colleagues and leading the way in utilising digital technology to recruit and activate members; and
  • Assisting in the development of leading edge recruitment and member service material.

About You

An astute communicator able to build rapport with members quickly, you will have the capability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a small team.  To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • High level interpersonal and presentation skills, including the ability to engage with small and large groups of members and non-members and to create opportunities for digital engagement and to develop rapport through digital means;
  • Previous experience in campaigning and meeting objectives and campaign deadlines;
  • Ability to speak to small and large gatherings of people to promote the message about the value of joining the QNMU;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to trade unions and their function in society coupled with a demonstrated commitment to QNMU’s values and purpose;
  • Demonstrated organisational skills;
  • High-level written and verbal communication;
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and take a collaborative approach to work;
  • Demonstrated ability to research, critically analyse, evaluate and reach sound conclusions and provide viable options; and
  • Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, establish priorities, use initiative and be proactive in raising and dealing with issues.
