The opportunity
A unique full time opportunity has arisen within the Racing Division for the role of Animal Welfare Advisor. This role is predominately focused on the strategic management and delivery of Greyhounds As Pets (GAP) and Off The Track (OTT) programs via effective stakeholder engagement and communications. We are seeking an individual with the skillset to promote the welfare and rehoming of racing industry Greyhounds, Standardbreds and Thoroughbreds.

Together with the Manager Corporate Communications, you will be the primary animal welfare liaison point for government, media and all other relevant stakeholders. Your well-developed communication skills are key to engaging with members of external organisations, State Government and industry associations locally and nationally to deliver sustainable outcomes for the benefit of retiring racing animals.

Your well-developed written skills will enable you to generate positive news stories and deliver comprehensive reporting and analysis. This position will oversee a broad range of promotional activities and marketing campaigns to increase the general public’s awareness of GAP and OTT to increase rehoming numbers. In addition, you will oversee content creation for OTT and GAP’s social media channels and websites. 

Leading a small yet highly effective team, you will work collaboratively with the team to achieve the desired rehoming outcomes and ensure that KPI targets are met in line with broader business objectives.

At times you will be required to be available on weekends and outside of standard business hours to assist with events and urgent matters.

About you
• Knowledge of the Greyhound, Thoroughbred and/or Standardbred racing industries desirable
• Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and experience of the Racing Industry, in the areas of competition, recreation and or leisure pursuits
• Demonstrated experience in stakeholder engagement and influencing at a senior level
• Well developed interpersonal and negotiation skills to effectively interact, network and liaise with stakeholders, industry participants and relevant governing bodies
• Well developed strategic thinking and reporting writing skills
• Well developed communication skills, both written and verbal
• Sound analytical skills with the ability to interpret relevant trends in multiple data sets
• Well developed skills in: negotiation, problem solving, report writing, managing budgets
• Tertiary qualification or work experience in relevant Animal Welfare, Biology, Veterinary studies or Communications or a related area desirable but not essential
