The Senior Communications Manager’s primary focus will be to develop and execute a best-in-class communications agenda (internal and external) that champions our product, brand and love of storytelling. The role will require someone with incredible emotional intelligence and the curiosity to explore the depth and breadth of experiences in our community of people with disability, families and support workers. Excellent written skills will be central to the role and will require someone with experience in a range of different styles, drawing on a tool kit of everything from corporate tones to create narratives and witty one-liners.

Priorities – the work

  • Own and deliver a holistic, end-to-end strategic communications agenda, spanning brand narrative, reputation management and PR, that inspires and educates in a thoughtful and impactful way
  • Integrate our existing communications initiatives with new and more sophisticated practices and processes
  • Lead and mentor a first rate communications team in collaboration with our marketing and brand teams, delivering strategies and campaigns that deliver greater education, awareness and growth within our user base
  • Develop and execute campaigns by region that recognise the uniqueness of each new Hireup community and ensure all communications activities feel local and personal
  • Engage and manage agency partnerships
  • Contribute to the management of our reputational risk and opportunity
  • Lead our crisis communications agenda as part of our crisis response team in the event of an incident or issue
  • Work closely with our CEO to develop and write thought leadership pieces and campaigns for Hireup that address issues in the technology, disability and social impact sectors
  • Keep pace with dynamic channels that give more powerful, amplified voices to stakeholders

Skills – the person  

  • Bachelor’s degree or above and 7+ years’ experience in a related role with a well-loved, B2C brand
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience leading and mentoring junior or mid-weight communications specialists
  • Heart-led storyteller with a passion for delivering highly compelling and informative pieces of work
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication with demonstrable experience in taking on a range of different writing styles, from professional/corporate communications to more creative storytelling techniques and language
  • Be a master at influencing people, while being obsessed with clear messaging and elegant at navigating competing priorities and ambiguity
  • Hands-on team player with the ability to work at both strategic and tactical levels in a collaborative and integrated environment
  • Strong connection to, or interest in building an understanding of the Australian disability sector and community
  • Approach work with high-energy, drive and internal motivation
  • Exhibit adaptability, resilience, transparency, trustworthiness, passion and innate curiosity
