Detail information about job Employee Communications Specialist (12 months Fixed Term). Terms and conditions vacancy

At BHP we support our people to grow, learn, develop their skills and reach their potential.
With a global portfolio of operations, we offer a diverse and inclusive environment with extraordinary career opportunities.  Our strategy is to focus on creating a safe work environment where our employees feel strongly connected to our values and objectives, and where the capability of our people is key to our success.
Come and be a part of this success.

About the role

Corporate Affairs is responsible for establishing and driving the strategy to protect and enhance BHP’s reputation, through establishing mutually beneficial internal and external relationships. Corporate Affairs delivers value and manages risk by securing the understanding and support of its key stakeholders. The Asset and Function Communications team (AFCT) plays a critical role in Corporate Affairs. We work closely with operations across BHP’s regions and offices, and global functions to deliver effective and transparent internal communications.

This 12-month fixed-term role (offering flexible working arrangements) is based in Melbourne and reports directly to the Manager, Leadership and Internal Communications (a job-share), and is responsible for developing practical and effective strategies and content, while working closely with AFCT colleagues across our global network to make sure messages are delivered consistently to our leaders and frontline employees.

Strengthening BHP’s culture is a Company priority. We want a culture that builds trusted relationships, close working partnerships and care for our people, where they can bring their whole selves to work and feel a true sense of achievement every day. The Specialist role will place great emphasis on delivering this step-change through clear, aligned communications, alongside the Company’s other priorities of safety and productivity. In this role you will:
  • Manage day-to-day employee communications with a strong editorial focus.
  • Develop and deliver internal communications campaigns, primarily across Human Resources, Health Safety and Environment, and External Affairs.
  • Develop and maintain trusted relationships with key internal stakeholders at all levels, and work closely with global teams to achieve measurable results.
  • Ensure all communications content and materials are delivered in line with Our Requirements for Communications, Community and External Engagement, and Our Requirements for Market Disclosure, as well as Our Charter values.

About you

To be successful in this role you will have a passion for employee communications, ideally with experience gained in a global heavy-industry, matrix environment.
You will have solid experience in developing clear and simple communications strategies, be an exceptional writer with the ability to tailor for traditional and digital channels and diverse audiences, and have excellent business partnering and project/time management skills.
In addition, you will be a great listener, have high attention to detail, be comfortable working autonomously, stay calm under pressure while juggling multiple tasks and deadlines, manage periods of ambiguity with ease, and positively put constructive feedback into practice.
A relevant tertiary qualification is preferred. Experience in human resources with knowledge of the employee lifecycle and/or health, safety, environment and community communications is extremely desirable.

Supporting a diverse workforce

At BHP, we recognise that we are strengthened by diversity. We are committed to providing a work environment in which everyone is included, treated fairly and with respect. We are an Equal Opportunity employer and we encourage applications from women and Indigenous people.
We know there are many aspects of our employees’ lives that are important, and work is only one of these, so we offer benefits to enable your work to fit with your life.  These benefits include flexible working options; a generous paid parental leave policy; other extended leave entitlements and parent rooms.
