About the role

Our client, a government agency, seeks an experienced Communications and Engagement Advisor to join them on a 2-3 month contract based at their offices in the Latrobe Valley region.

As the Communications and Engagement Advisor, you will responsible for the implementation of the Stakeholder Engagement Strategy plans and generating communications, stakeholder relations and community engagement strategies to support projects in both planning and delivery stages.

Key responsibilities and tasks

Reporting directly into the Community and Stakeholder Engagement Manager, your key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing communications and engagement plans for projects in both planning and delivery stages
  • Provide expert advice on external strategies and on the monitoring and evaluation of stakeholder and community engagement strategies
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships within the community, industry bodies, local councils and other stakeholder groups
  • Develop risk mitigation strategies, manage issues for communities and stakeholders
  • Prepare high quality communications material for fact sheets, advertising, publications, media events, online communications and the website
  • Actively participate in communications an engagement activities including community meetings, presentations, information sessions and other events

Experience and skills

As well as having a collaborative, good-natured and outgoing personality, the experience and skills you will need to demonstrate include:

  • Proven experience in communications, community engagement, stakeholder relations and issues management within government or infrastructure projects
  • Excellent and proven issues management skills and the ability to identify and escalate issues
  • Experience of the public sector and government’s expectations in communicating the impact of operations at a local level
  • Extensive experience in delivering community consultation programs, including proactive engagement as well as delivering high quality communications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills particularly the ability to prepare high quality written materials and present complex and technical data to internal and external stakeholders
  • Tertiary Qualifications in a relevant field e.g. Community Engagement (IAP2), Communications, Public Relations or equivalent
