The Client

Bluefin are working with a government client to recruit an experienced Senior Media Manager to building and maintain a strong brand / reputation of the Department.

About the Role

Reporting to the Director of Media. You will be responsible for developing effective media communications for the department. You will actively liaise with media representatives to enhance the reputation of the Department, preparing media collateral including articles, press kits and press releases, and other information.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and execute media material in collaboration with the Director of Media, liaising closely with internal stakeholders and subject matter experts to ensure content is accurate and appropriate, in line with Government policy and supports the Departmental brand and objectives
  • Identify public relations and media issues as they emerge, and act as a source of communication advice for executives and managers, partnering with them regarding issues and media liaison and management, and providing support for public engagements and events
  • Provide and contribute to strategic communication advice, monitoring state-wide media, and responding to media issues and inquiries
  • Coordinate the flow of news stories about the Department,
  • Researching and preparing media releases and responses, actively engaging with media representatives and providing timely and accurate responses to media inquiries
  • Manage media relations for special events, programs and major initiatives, coordinating the preparation of events and public appearances of the Secretary, Deputy Secretary and senior executives
  • Manage media issues and provide advice and guidance to senior management on appropriate actions
  • Media monitoring and evaluation, using findings to support the media strategy.

The Person

  • Tertiary qualifications in media, journalism or similar; or equivalent experience
  • Demonstrated 10 years' experience in media relations, including contacts with media organisations and an understanding of emergent issues impacting the client group
  • Comfortable advising senior management on how to build effective media relations programmes which engage the media, clients and our people.
  • The ability to think creatively to deliver media programmes that engages and connects with all employees and stakeholders
  • Ability to build strong relationships internally and externally.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and writing skills.
