Keolis Downer is the proud operator of Yarra Trams, the oldest and largest light rail network in the world. Since 2009, Keolis Downer has significantly invested in Melbourne’s tram network and community. In September last year, the Victorian Government has awarded Keolis Downer the contract to run Yarra Trams until at least 2024. To deliver on these exciting new challenges, Yarra Trams requires the services of a Communications Supervisor.

What the role entails
This is a great opportunity for a communications professional with experience leading teams to ensure Yarra Trams meets and exceeds its Franchise commitments in relation to passenger information.

Reporting to the Team Manager for Passenger Experience Delivery, the role involves:

  • Delivering timely, accurate and professional passenger information and communications during unplanned, late planned and planned disruptions on the tram network;
  • Assisting the Team Manager with daily management and coordination of work across the team;
    Supervise “day of” unplanned disruption activities undertaken by passenger information officers in the operations centre including remote public address (RPAS) and on-network announcements, social media information and responses, and digital disruption information;
  • Assist in advocating for the needs of our passengers during unplanned and late planned service changes;
  • Attending internal or external meetings to advocate for the needs of our customers in the planning of service change;
  • Proof reading content for electronic displays, tramTRACKER, Twitter and various other channels;
  • Working to increase passenger satisfaction through effective and efficient centralised passenger information before and during disruptions and special events.

What you will need for this role
To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Tertiary qualifications in communications or similar;
  • Experience leading, supervising or coordinating teams of people within an operations-based environment;
  • A solid understanding of Melbourne geographical locations, including tram and other public transport networks;
  • Experience in working in a fast-paced and unsupervised environment with competing priorities;
  • Experience in preparing written communication across fixed and digital channels for distribution to the public;
  • Ability to advocate for passenger experience driven outcomes in an operational environment;
  • Demonstrable knowledge of forecasting , coordinating, monitoring and delivering plans;
  • A proven history of preparing written communication across fixed and digital channels for distribution to the public.
