The opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Communication, the Communication and Engagement Adviser has a leading role in media liaison and is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that engage with the VCGLR's core audience. This position leads major communication activities and ensures these are delivered in accordance with VCGLR's style and brand policies and are consistent with the VCGLR's stakeholder and digital engagement frameworks. The Adviser supports the Manager in identifying opportunities to broaden the reach of the VCGLR to ensure key messages are effectively disseminated to industry.

This role is part of the VCGLR's Strategic Communication team who are responsible for internal and external communication across the organisation.  The team is a part of the VCGLR's Research and Engagement Division which, along with communication, is responsible for education, regulatory strategy and client services (the VCGLR's contact centre).

To be successful in this position you will have the proven ability to build productive working relationships with stakeholders within an organisation and externally. Experience in a communications role within government or a regulatory environment will be looked upon favourably.

  • be experienced  in communications and stakeholder relations with demonstrated ability to prepare and implement strategies in these areas, and translate complex concepts in a succinct manner
  • have the proven ability to identify reputational and communications issues and risks as they emerge and escalate as appropriate
  • be highly organised with the ability to successfully manage competing priorities and   project tasks to ensure project milestones are achieved and deadlines met
  • have excellent communication skills, especially in writing and presenting complex information that will be subject to public scrutiny.
