Vacancy – Communications and Marketing Officer, Araluen Botanic Park
Araluen is a growing tourist destination that attracts 130,000 visitors per year. A rare vacancy exists for an experienced, passionate Communications and Marketing Officer to drive the profile and growth of Araluen through innovative marketing and communications.
It is an exciting time to be at Araluen with a long-term lease agreement recently signed with the Government, a new Forest Deck functions area now available for a diverse range of activities and the Park now a popular visitation experience all year. Araluen also hosts events including: ‘It's Yates Springtime at Araluen’, ‘Araluen's Avocado Festival’, ‘Araluen's Chilli Festival’, ‘Araluen’s Blues in the Hills’, and ‘Carol's by Torchlight’.

The Communications and Marketing Officer will join our small Araluen team and assist the General Manager to successfully achieve our vision.
The successful candidate will have the following:
- A minimum 2+ years’ experience in a similar communications & marketing role
- Ideally a degree in marketing and/or communications with a good knowledge of marketing techniques and principles
- Be a strong and confident communicator
- Excellent knowledge and experience of brand exposure
- Demonstrated skills in copywriting for both internal and external communication channels
- Advanced Social Media management skills including Facebook, Instagram, & Linkedin
- Advanced Social messaging management skills including WhatsApp, WeChat, QQ Messenger, Facebook Messenger, Viber and Snap Chat.
- Experience using Wordpress
- Ability to think outside the box
- Have exceptional time management skills with the ability to deal with conflicting deadlines
- Possess a keen eye for detail with a sense of urgency in delivery
- Experience with functions & events
The key responsibilities are:
- Preparing, planning & project managing the publication of all publicity material to maximise Araluen brand promotion.
- Create advertising and marketing campaigns to raise Araluen’s profile and visitation
- Create and develop new innovative ways to communicate the Araluen message to our existing and new customers
- Co-ordinate and implement tactical marketing plans
- Implement and maintain a CMS platform,
- Updating all digital channels regularly to ensure content, promotional news, events and offers remain timely and relevant
- Track and manage social media following and engagement
- Conduct market research to identify opportunities for promotion and growth
- Collaborate with managers in preparing marketing budget and monitoring expenses
- Assists the GM with council support
- You must be a 'people person', a team player and passionate about where you work.
- Start date for this role is September 2018. Interviews will start mid-August.

Reports directly to the General Manager
Job Location: Araluen Botanic Park, 362 Croyden Rd, Roleystone
Marketing and Events
- Prepare marketing plans for Araluen in conjunction with the GM
- Implements marketing plans for Festivals, Events and other Activities
- Works with the admin team to deliver Araluen’s events and functions
- Be a member of the Events, Marketing and Promotion (EM&P) Committee
- Take the minutes of any committee meeting attended
- Implements the decisions of the EM&P Committee
Communications
- Prepare and disseminates press releases in conjunction with the GM
- Administer the Araluen website
- Manage Araluen’s social media sites
- Monitor social media and alerts GM to potential problems on social media sites and recommends action to mitigate potential problems
- Prepare and distributes monthly e-newsletters
Retail Operations
- Work closely with retail team and alert the GM to any problems affecting the retail operations
- Provide recommendations/ actions to improve the running of these retail operations
Council Support
- Provide a monthly marketing report to the Council
- Provide support to the members of the Council as required
Financial
- Collaborate with the GM to prepare marketing budgets and monitor expenses
- Prepare reports as required
Our team is small; therefore, you will be required to assist other team members to complete tasks from time to time.
