The Organisation:

This opportunity exists within a large Federal Government Department focussed on supporting and advancing the wellbeing of people and families in Australia through very social policy initiatives and programme delivery.

The Opportunity:

The Department are seeking an experienced Public Affairs Officer (Grade 3) to join their Communication Services Branch. They are looking for someone who has a passion for social policy, combined with skills and experience in strategic communication and media. The Role:

Working in to support the communications and marketing activities within a social policy focussed branch, your duties and responsibilities will include but not be limited to:-

  • Manage the delivery of complex government information, with an awareness of their possible impact on strategic, political or operational outcomes.
  • Provide high level strategic communication advice to support the Department’s policies, programmes and objectives
  • Provide media and issues management advice and services, including media strategy, media releases, speeches, talking points and responses to media enquiries
  • Prepare complex and /or sensitive documentation including strategies, briefs, (including Senate Estimates), QONs, proposals, and defensive talking points
  • Manage a small team, and build capability through coaching, performance feedback, conflict resolution and encouraging career development
  • Take responsibility for the achievements of own and team outcomes, monitor progress and follow through to deliver quality outcomes
  • Develop and manage a range of stakeholder relationships, including with client areas, Minister and Assistant Ministers’ offices and executive
  • Provide a significant contribution to innovation and business improvement strategies for the Communication and Media Branch

The Person:

You will love working in a busy environment, and putting your range of skills into use including leading high-level communication plans, overseeing issues management, developing client and stakeholder relationships, guiding your team to create innovative media and social media approaches, and providing quality input to media responses, speeches and other communication products.

Ideally, you will have worked in a client services role, have experience supervising staff and understand the need to be responsive to Minister’s offices and departmental executives. You will have relevant tertiary qualifications in journalism, communications, marketing, publications or related fields and be able to work in a fast-paced and high performing team.

The Salary:

$65 - $80/hr + 9.5% Superannuation will be offered for this role.
