About the role

The Alumni Relations Manager delivers the alumni engagement strategy for the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS). In this role you will work with colleagues to deliver an alumni program that includes engagement events, volunteer programs, communications and other activities, while ensuring alignment with the University’s alumni strategy. You will provide advice in relation to best practice in alumni programing to the Head of Alumni and Stakeholder Relations and other senior staff. You will also manage and mentor two staff plus other casual staff as required.

As Alumni Relations Manager, you will contribute to MDHS Advancement planning and reporting, and should have a sound understanding of IT and other systems that support the management of alumni engagement programs. You will play a key role in the success of the MDHS Alumni Relations goals and, as such, will be expected to lead your team to ensure consistent high-quality delivery of all its programs.

You will have high-level interpersonal skills, staff and volunteer management skills, the ability to prioritise tasks and to coordinate all activities ensuring they are delivered on time and to budget are critical for this role.

This exciting backfill position is available for 12 months.

About you

  • Tertiary qualifications with a preference for post graduate qualifications and extensive experience in a role with responsibility for alumni relations, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • An understanding and appreciation of the principles of current international best practice in alumni relations and its relationship to fundraising, teaching and learning, preferably in a higher education environment.
  • Demonstrable record as an effective manager able to operate in a large, complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills, including presentation skills and the capacity to liaise and influence a range of people across all levels of the organisation.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering engagement activities including events, projects and communications to achieve strategic outcomes in time and within budget.
  • High level of attention to detail and exceptionally high standards of accuracy of work, and the ability to work autonomously with considerable independence.
  • Experience working with volunteers to achieve identified outcomes and understanding of strategies to manage volunteers effectively.
