Salary: £26,495 to £28,936 per annum, depending on skills and experience. Salary progression beyond this scale is subject to performance.

We are seeking to appoint a Research Assistant to join the Journeying through Dementia clinical trial. The trial is testing the effectiveness of a group self-management programme for people in the early stages of dementia and their family/supporters.

Journeying through Dementia is funded by the NIHR Health Technology Assessment (HTA) programme. The lead investigator is Professor Gail Mountain, University of Bradford, and the trial is supported by the Sheffield Clinical Trials Research Unit (CTRU). The principal investigator in Nottingham is Tom Dening, Professor of Dementia Research. This post will be based at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH), University of Nottingham, which offers excellent facilities and is the base for numerous other dementia researchers in the IMH Centre for Dementia.

You will work closely with researchers from several universities and NHS trusts, across Yorkshire, Humberside and the East Midlands, to deliver the trial. Your main responsibility will be travelling throughout the region visiting the homes of people with dementia and their family members to recruit them to the study, support their participation and to collect outcome measure data from them. You will also work with the Study Manager to help set up and deliver the study for example liaising with NHS trusts, promotion of the study for example at service-user groups and undertaking quality control responsibilities such as site monitoring and data queries.

Candidates must have at least a good first degree and understanding of the principles of clinical trials, as well as excellent interpersonal skills. Broader experience, for example, with people living with dementia, will be an advantage.

The post will be offered on a fixed-term contract until the 30 November 2018. This post is offered on a full-time basis, job share arrangements may be considered.

Informal enquiries may be addressed to Professor Tom Dening, via Mrs Toni Wijewardene on 0115 8230421 or by email to [email protected]. You may also approach Dr Jessica Wright, the Study Manager, by email: [email protected]. Please note that applications sent directly to this email address will not be accepted.
