The South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) ConsortiumStarting in October 2017, the South East Network for Social Sciences (SeNSS) has been awarded an Economic and Social Research Council-funded Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP). SeNSS unites ten institutions to promote research collaboration and provide postgraduate research training across the range of social science disciplines, including the delivery of an ESRC-funded DTP. Coordinated by the University of Essex, SeNSS also comprises City University; University of East Anglia; Goldsmiths, University of London;  University of Kent; University of Reading; Roehampton University; Royal Holloway, University of London; University of Surrey; and University of Sussex. Its governance structure includes, amongst others, a Strategy Board, Management Board, Operational Group, Training, Employability and Development Group, and External Innovation Group.

The Roles and DutiesWorking closely with the SeNSS Manager and Director, the post-holder will make a significant contribution to the development and administration of SeNSS, ensuring the establishment and operation of an intellectually rigorous and world-leading interdisciplinary research training environment. This will include working with academic and professional services colleagues across SeNSS to develop and implement systems and procedures; assisting in ensuring the provision of high quality training and events; developing and supporting marketing, student recruitment and selection, and studentship allocation; actively engaging with internal and external stakeholders; and day-to-day management of SeNSS initiatives, which will include monitoring and assessing development. You will have some experience of operational management and/or project planning. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and a commitment to providing outstanding service. The post will be based at the University of Essex Colchester campus.

Qualification and Skills requiredThe successful candidate will have excellent administrative and organisational skills, and will be able to deal flexibly with a wide range of responsibilities and multiple priorities. You will be able to develop productive working relationships with colleagues at all levels across the SeNSS Consortium, and with its external partners, seeking and offering clear advice and guidance.

Applicants should possess an undergraduate degree (or substantial equivalent experience), a minimum of 3 A-Levels (or equivalent qualifications), and a minimum of 5 GCSE passes at A-C including English Language and Mathematics at Grade B or above (or equivalent qualifications). Significant and recent experience of working in a relevant environment or role is also required.

Candidates will need to demonstrate excellent attention to detail and a commitment to high standards, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  The abilities to work well as part of a team, to work accurately and to remain calm under pressure are essential.
