A Research Assistant is required to work as part of the IMPACT study developing molecular diagnosis for childhood tumours. The IMPACT programme is a collaboration between UCL Institute of Child Health, Great Ormond Street Hospital and The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). The goal of the IMPACT study is to provide rapid diagnostic molecular genetics for children with tumours in order to improve diagnosis, identify targetable mutations and provide a basis for trial screening.

The post will be based in the laboratory of Dr Thomas Jacques in the Developmental Biology and Cancer Programme at the Institute of Child Health but will collaborate extensively with IMPACT partners (Dr Darren Hargrave, Dr Mike Hubank and Prof. Lou Chesler). The aim of the post is to co-ordinate national recruitment of samples and histopathological review of samples.

This post is initially funded for 2 years.

The post-holder will hold a bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant biomedical subject.

Experience of research in a biomedical setting, carrying out literature searches, critical appraisal of research papers and other types of documents and molecular and cellular research skills is essential.

Experience of histopathology (e.g. as a biomedical scientist) is desirable.
