The Faculty of Manufacturing and Materials within Coventry University is seeking to recruit an outstanding individual to undertake applied research in the area of joining science.

The successful applicant will be expected to have strong research expertise in one or more of the following joining processes and technologies:

Processes

  • Fusion welding
  • Solid-state bonding
  • Brazing and soldering

Technologies

  • LASER welding, brazing and soldering
  • Ultrasonic bonding
  • Electromagnetic Pulse Welding

Alternatively applicants with a strong industrial research background underpinned by evidence of a good track record of publications associated with the HVM sector will also be welcomed. 

Candidates must hold a doctorate in an appropriate scientific or engineering discipline with at least 3 years post-doctoral research and a developing international reputation for research excellence.

The successful candidate will be working initially as a key member of the University’s research team and our consortium partners Williams Advanced Engineering Group, Aston Martin, Unipart Manufacturing Group, Warwick Manufacturing Group and the National Composites Centre on the recently awarded project involving the next generation of advanced powertrain systems.

You will join one of the UK’s leading innovative centres associated with applied manufacturing engineering research and one of the UK’s most dynamic modern universities, ranked in the Top 3 for teaching excellence in England and Wales and in the Top 50 overall in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide for 2014, 2015 and 2016. We have wide ranging national and international collaborating partners in industry and academia and we are continuing to invest heavily in facilities and personnel to extend Coventry University’s research standing on a global scale.
