Are you interested in enhancing the reputation of the UK and nurturing future leaders through scholarships? Can you demonstrate a strong track record in customer service and delivering a service to students through a combination of administrative, communications, and enrichment priorities? If so, you could gain valuable experience as a Programme Administrator for the Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission (MACC) at the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU).

The ACU hosts the Secretariat for the MACC who oversee the Marshall Scholarships. Founded by a 1953 Act of Parliament, and named in honour of US Secretary of State George C Marshall, the Scholarships commemorate the humane ideals of the Marshall Plan. They aim to strengthen the enduring relationship between the British and American peoples, their governments and their institutions.

Managing a portfolio of individual students, you will act as first point of contact for all issues, which may relate to placement, logistics, or simple personal matters. You will play a critical role in representing our work to its most important recipients: the award holders themselves.

As Programme Administrator, your responsibilities will include:

  • Placement of Scholars at UK universities including the submission and monitoring of Scholars’ applications for admission; liaison with university admissions offices and relevant departments/potential supervisors and corresponding with Scholars
  • Organisation of Scholars’ travel and shipping to the UK including immigration formalities and arranging accommodation
  • Pastoral care of Scholars during tenure of their awards
  • Acting as the first point of contact for various stakeholders, ensuring a professional and timely approach to service delivery and day-to-day administrative management
  • Developing, organising and attending events or engagement opportunities designed to enrich the scholarship experience.

Educated to degree level, with a patient, student-focussed and considerate approach, you will have a clear understanding of rules and regulations and a determination that these should be applied fairly and consistently.

Some of the skills you need to be able to demonstrate include:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including an understanding of different audiences, a sensitivity for different cultural contexts and a strong commitment to customer care
  • Proven experience of working in busy, demanding environments while maintaining professionalism and accuracy
  • Proven competence in Microsoft Office and database systems
  • Relevant experience of working in a higher education/educational office environment
  • Knowledge of or an interest in Anglo/American educational, cultural and social issues
  • Experience of Immigration Advising is desirable.

Benefits include 27 days holiday per year plus 4 discretionary days and bank holidays, competitive pension scheme, season ticket loan, childcare vouchers and excellent support for learning and development.
