Detail information about job Professor of Law. Terms and conditions vacancy

Northumbria University, Newcastle is a research-rich, business-focussed, professional university with a global reputation for academic excellence. Located in Newcastle upon Tyne, and with a campus in the heart of London’s financial district, Northumbria University is located in the UK’s best two cities for students. At Northumbria, we are global in our scope and reach, with operations in London, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and Singapore, and we remain the largest English provider in Hong Kong. The University continues its strong commitment to internationalism, including its valuable and long-standing links with Europe.

Northumbria is ranked 48th in the Guardian League Table 2018, and ranked in the Top 200 Under-50 global University rankings.

The Northumbria Law School at Northumbria University experienced an excellent REF 2014 research outcome with half of all outputs submitted assessed at the 4*/3* threshold and rating of 34th in the National Research Power league table. This is an exceptionally positive momentum shift for an initial submission and leverage to enhance subsequently our research ambitions.  A significant strategic investment is planned to continue to drive forward research of the highest quality.

In line with this step change, we are looking to appoint an individual with a strong REF publication record, evidence of ability to generate substantial research income commensurate with the title of Professor and the ability to empower colleagues in a professional environment, acting collegiately and as a research leader and mentor.  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the ongoing development of research-rich learning throughout the Law School’s portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and doctoral study.

The new post is open to candidates with specialisms in all law subjects. Areas of particular interest are obligations, information rights, mental health law, criminal justice and post-Brexit legal studies, but all areas will be considered if accompanied by an excellent track record for producing high quality outputs in conjunction with a significant record for income generation.

For an informal discussion about the post, please contact Dr Michael Stockdale, Head of Northumbria Law School, on +44 (191) 227 3697 or via email at [email protected]. Alternatively, please contact Professor Alan Reed, Associate Faculty Pro Vice-Chancellor - Research and Innovation, on +44 (191) 227 4768 or via email at [email protected].
