Detail information about job MRC Postdoctoral Fellow. Terms and conditions vacancy

The University of Cambridge wishes to appoint a postdoctoral scientist to join Dr Julien Prudent's Mitochondrial Physiology research group in the MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit in Cambridge.

The post holder will work within a programme entitled "Mitochondrial dynamics and inter-organelle contacts in metabolism and death". Mitochondria are highly dynamics organelles constantly adapting their shape through fusion/fission events, to ensure their physiological functions. A critical discovery in the field of mitochondrial cell biology has been the identification of transient and specialized molecular structures connecting mitochondria with other organelles. Numerous of these inter-organelles contacts have been identified and functionally linked to mitochondrial functions, including apoptosis and cell survival. The goal of the project is to understand the regulations and functions of mitochondrial dynamics and inter-organelle contacts during cell survival and death events. Developing biochemical, cell biology and advanced microscopy methods, the post-holder will undertake research to study mitochondrial ultrastructure and organelle contact sites adaptations during different metabolic states. The associated-mechanisms regulating these morphological transitions will be investigated.

Candidates will have (or be about to be awarded) a PhD in biochemistry, cell biology or molecular biology, and a track record of related research achievements. Experience in classical biochemical, molecular and cell biology techniques is required. Knowledge in mitochondrial physiology, including dynamics and metabolism and strong experience in microscopy analysis is essential.

This is a fixed term training programme post for 3 years from date of appointment.

The MRC Mitochondrial Biology Unit is a world-renowned centre for research in respiratory enzymes. Additional information can be found at www.mrc-mbu.cam.ac.uk.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
