The MRC Clinical Trials Unit at UCL (CTU)  is a centre of excellence for clinical trials, meta-analyses and epidemiological studies. This is a 4 year appointment. The main purpose of the role is to develop and carry out clinical trial methodology research projects with the aim of improving the conduct of clinical trials. Trial Conduct Methodology, priority areas for the unit include:

  • “Regulatory future-proofing” to allow academic trials the potential to be used for licensing purposes, but at lower cost.
  • Implementing novel trials designs, such as multi-arm multi-stage trials, stratified medicine trials and platform trials. 
  • Developing effective and efficient monitoring methods to ensure good (enough) quality data, building on our TEMPER monitoring study.
  • Using e-Health resources to facilitate many areas of trial conduct
  • Engaging and retaining participants in trials, and communicating results.
  • Managing and making best use of safety data The post hold will also work to bring together trial conduct methodology across UCL’s Institute of Clinical Trials and Methodology. This post is an open-ended role.

The successful applicant will have extensive experience of working on randomised clinical trials with a track record of research publication; experience of working in multi-disciplinary clinical trial management teams; a thorough understanding of clinical trial methods and the practical issues in trial and/or data management that may impede the successful, timely and cost-effective completion of a clinical trial; a thorough understanding of the practical/regulatory aspects of large-scale, international clinical trials; demonstrably excellent skills in collaborative working; and the skills to design, conduct, analyse and report research studies to effectively address practical questions.
