Detail information about job Research Associate. Terms and conditions vacancy

The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £34,056 - £41,163 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Applicants are invited for a Postdoctoral Research Associate post in the Department of Social Science (DSS) which houses CLOSER (Cohort & Longitudinal Studies Enhancement Resources) an ESRC and MRC funded consortium of eight leading Longitudinal Studies. This post represents an exciting opportunity to contribute to the further development, enhancement and use of the UK’s longitudinal studies, with a focus on cross-study data harmonisation and training.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute through research and training to the further development, enhancement and use of the UK’s longitudinal studies. You will play a central role in CLOSER’s training and capacity building work stream, including further developing CLOSER’s online training offer for new users and their supervisors, the CLOSER Learning Hub. You will also be expected to develop your own independent research strand and to submit funding proposals to support your further research. You may be asked to contribute to other funded research, while supporting the teaching programme and supervision of dissertations within the department.

The appointment is available from the 1st October 2017 until 30th September 2019 in the first instance.

You will have a PhD in a quantitative social science discipline, such as social policy, sociology, economics, psychology, and social statistics; or with a background in epidemiology or other quantitative health-related discipline.

As well as an excellent academic record, you will have demonstrable knowledge of advanced quantitative analysis, and expertise in statistical software such as Stata and R, and/or other relevant statistical software. In addition you will have expertise in using longitudinal datasets and a strong research interest in a topic related to one or more of the funded projects outlined above.

Strong communication skills including the ability to write clearly and concisely, and to present to both academic and non-academic audiences as well as good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work as part of a team are essential.

Experience of working with the cohort and longitudinal studies and developing research funding proposals, is not essential but would be an advantage.

We welcome applications from candidates nearing completion of their PhD who anticipate completion before taking up this role.
