Detail information about job Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Engineering Business Management. Terms and conditions vacancy

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is seeking to recruit a talented and enthusiastic lecturer in engineering business management. The candidate’s profile could include experience in industry or entrepreneurship.

There are eight research centres within the Department broadly covering the activities of staff associated within four academic groups: Design and Manufacturing; Solid Mechanics and Materials; Thermo-Fluids and Energy; and Dynamics and Control. Ideally, the candidates will be expected to bring expertise which aligns with the Design and Manufacturing group.

The applicants must be able to demonstrate the capability to conduct independent and collaborative research within the scope of Engineering, Management, Design or Manufacturing. Candidates should aim to show a track record in obtaining external research funding and publishing high-quality research papers.

Applicants must provide a four-page outline of a potential research proposal and be prepared to discuss this at interview. Proposals for research including collaboration with industry and other schools or departments at Bath would be viewed favourably. The candidate would be expected to identify the funding source(s) to be targeted. It would be expected that the successful lecturer would submit this within the first year of the appointment.

The candidate’s major role in undergraduate teaching will be to lead our full-semester Group Business & Design Project (GBDP). In this unit, all our 3rdyear MEng students learn to integrate business tools and methods in large technical design and development projects to solve problems set by industry. For more details see our projects web page

The appointee will also contribute to MSc programmes in Mechanical Engineering such as: Engineering Business Management (EBM; new for 2018/19) and Innovation and Technology Management (ITM; jointly run with the School of Management).

Applicants must provide an outline (2 pages) teaching statement explaining how they would teach Engineering Management to our undergraduate and postgraduate students. This statement should refer to relevant experience of teaching and/or training, highlighting any areas of innovative teaching practice and industry engagement that could be brought to the role.

The successful applicants will work in a progressive academic environment, and will benefit from the supportive, collaborative and well-organised Department and Faculty system at the University. The candidates would normally hold a PhD with clear evidence of an academic career but candidates with a Masters-level degree and professional careers in engineering business management will also be considered. There is a strong culture of providing newly-appointed lecturers with the necessary training and freedom to develop their academic careers in terms of both research and teaching.

We encourage the development of a diverse and inclusive workforce and offer excellent benefits, with options for flexible working.
