Research Assistant (if close to completing PhD) OR Research Fellow (if PhD obtained) in Economic Analysis of Wetland Ecosystem Services

Full Time, 18 month Fixed Term contract

£23,837 to £27,304 per annum, with additional performance related pay up to £32,094 per annum (Research Assistant) or £32,094 per annum (Research Fellow)

Location: Cranfield, Bedfordshire, MK43 0AL

We are looking for an enthusiastic Researcher to work on the WetlandLIFE project, funded under the NERC Valuing Nature Programme and carried out with our partner organisations (http://valuing-nature.net/wetlandlife).

The post involves applying economic valuation methods and concepts of ecosystems services to assess the benefits to people and the wider economy of wetlands on selected case study sites in England. More specifically, it involves assessing how perceived or actual risks associated with nuisance and biting insects, particularly mosquitoes, might affect the achievement of future wetland benefits. The work also involves the economic appraisal of risk management options.

You will have a PhD (or be close to completion) in applying economic analysis in any of the areas of land use and ecosystem services, or related discipline, with demonstrable applied experience in quantitative economic research preferably related to the area of land use systems or similar. You will be motivated to use both qualitative and quantitative social science methods, particularly regarding the economic valuation of ecosystem services from wetlands under different insect-related risk scenarios.

For an informal discussion regarding this position, please contact Dr Anil Graves, Senior Lecturer in Land Use Systems. Tel: 01234 754294, Email: [email protected]
