Detail information about job Health, Safety and Environment Manager. Terms and conditions vacancy

Job DescriptionAberystwyth University is seeking to appoint a Health, Safety and Environment Manager. Reporting to the Director of the Estates Development Department, this is an exciting opportunity to join an ambitious, forward-thinking Institution. Crucially, you will provide insight and expertise for all Health Safety and Environment (HSE) matters across the University, with both a strategic and operational remit. Promoting and developing a robust HSE culture, suitable candidates must possess strong influencing skills with an ability to engage at all levels.

The University’s Institutes are internationally-recognised for research and teaching in biological, environmental, physical and rural sciences. These fields of research require knowledge and use of radiation and extensive chemical use and practice. This extends to both commercial activity via the University’s farms, as well as the University as a whole, and these areas are recognised as hazardous. The Biorefining Centre of Excellence, based in the IBERS, contributes to the science of renewable energies and the transition to low carbon economy. The equipment for this research is pioneering and requires particular health and safety attention. As a result of the local need, there are nominated staff within the Departments/Institutes who carryout health and safety monitoring to support the Health, Safety and Environment Team.

The Health Safety and Environment Manager will be directly responsible for a team of five. In addition, all Institutes and Departments have officers whose role includes an element of, and responsibility for, HSE. The Manager, whilst not directly line managing these staff, will contribute to the elements of HSE work.

This is an important role requiring wide experience across the health, safety and environment field. You will work with the Director of Estates Development Department in delivering appropriate strategies, reporting to committees, fielding questions and preparing written documents for committees and Council.

Acknowledgement of the many hazards involved in the work and research of the University and an understanding of necessary safety plans and risk assessments is crucial.
