Job Purpose

This is a 1-2 year post to which the successful applicant will be involved in the delivery of a thoracic oncology research program and will lead recruitment, follow-up and re-sampling of patients recruited to Cancer Research UK’s TRACERx study (TRAcking Cancer Evolution through therapy (Rx)). The training fellowship is designed to provide state-of-the-art research experience, within a structured training environment, for future academic clinicians. As a Clinical Research Fellow (CRF) this post will allow the development of a research project aligned with the TRACERx program, leading to the submission of an MD or PhD degree. Although research will form the major component of this post, participation in associated clinical duties will be incorporated into the Job Plan. Potential research projects include: 1. Cachexia and sarcopenia in the TRACERx cohort and correlation with clinical pathological, imaging and genomic variants 2. Germline variants in the TRACERx cohort and their relevance to cancer evolution and the heterogeneity of somatic mutational events. 3. Histopathological subtypes in NSCLC and their correlation with genomic, transcriptomic and epigenetic features. 4. The heterogeneity of somatic variants in difficult to sequence regions of the human exome in the TRACERx cohortStandard Terms & Conditions

The salary will be on the Clinical Research Fellow £33,131 - £58,598 per annum. The post carries an additional entitlement depending on "on call" responsibilities. This is paid under a separate arrangement with the NHS for which the University acts as paymaster only.

This post is available for 12 months but may be extended to 24 months by mutual agreement. The successful applicant (if aged under 60) will be eligible to join the Universities’ Superannuation Scheme. Further information regarding the scheme is available from the Superannuation Officer, who is also prepared to advise on questions relating to the transfer of Superannuation benefits. All research and related activities, including grants, donations, clinical trials, contract research, consultancy and commercialisation are required to be managed through the University’s relevant processes (e.g. contractual and financial), in accordance with the University Court’s policies.
