Detail information about job Postdoctoral Research Associate. Terms and conditions vacancy
Contract Type: Fixed-term for 48 months with a start date of 1 November 2017 or as soon as possible
Faculty: Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health
Summary:
The successful candidate will work in the Department of Oncology & Metabolism at the University of Sheffield and will be responsible to the group head, Professor Claire Lewis, and her clinical collaborator who is co-leading this study, Professor Janet Brown. Research interests of Professor Lewis’ team include investigations into the role of various macrophage subsets in the relapse of primary and metastatic tumours after various frontline forms of therapy (see: Hughes et al. 2015. Cancer Res; De Palma & Lewis 2013. Cancer Cell; Lewis et al. 2016. Cancer Cell). This PCUK-funded study will investigate the ability of targeted liposomes to eliminate relapse-promoting, perivascular macrophages in mouse prostate tumours. We hope that this exciting project will lead on to a clinical trial of this new treatment in combination with hormone therapy, radiation therapy or chemotherapy for men with prostate cancer.
You will hold a good degree and PhD and have experience in cell culture, FACS and flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry and/or immunofluorescence microscopy, RNA/protein isolation and analysis and the use of mouse tumour models (including the harvesting/analysis of body tissues and fluids for analysis).
This research post is sponsored by the charity, Prostate Cancer UK. It is full-time and for a fixed-term period of 1 November 2017 until 31 October 2021.
