We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to lead experimental work on a new NERC funded project exploring how decision making is impacted by the interaction between personality variation, state (hunger and knowledge) and social interactions. The candidate will design and run behavioural experiments using fish in the state-of-the-art aquarium facility at the University of Bristol. There will also be the opportunity to carry out fieldwork in Trinidad using guppies. Experimental work will involve manipulating hunger levels and carrying out decision-making experiments (for example, see http://advances.sciencemag.org/content/3/5/e1602682), where individual movements and decisions are tracked using computer vision software.
The successful candidate will be based at the University of Bristol in the Ioannou research group (www.ioannougroup.com). The experimental work at Bristol will be designed and analysed in close collaboration with theoreticians at the University of Bristol (Alasdair Houston and Sean Rands) and the Max Planck Department of Collective Behaviour (Iain Couzin), thus the ability to work as part of a team is essential. The successful candidate will have a demonstrable academic interest and strong background in experimental animal behaviour, behavioural ecology or animal cognition research. Previous experience working with fish is desirable but not essential.
