We are seeking a full-time, 4 year post-doctoral research fellow in the field of; Environmental social sciences/human geography to start on 1st Jan 2018 until 31st December 2021 (48 months).
The starting salary will be from £34,520 depending on qualifications and experience. This post is subject to final funding confirmation from RCUK.
The university wishes to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (PDRF) to work on the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF) supported 'Blue Communities' project, a collaboration between:
- Plymouth Marine Laboratory (PML)
- University of Exeter (including the University of Exeter Medical School & College of Life & Environmental Sciences)
- University of Plymouth
- Several institutions and non-governmental bodies across South East Asia including in Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and China.
The overall aim of the project is to: "develop interdisciplinary research capability and lasting collaborations that: facilitate innovative application of integrated planning in the marine environment within the UNESCO Man and the Biosphere Programme and other marine parks and their communities in South East Asia, and respond to the UN SDGs of no poverty, zero hunger and good health and well-being for coastal communities through the sustainable use of marine resources".
This position focuses on Coastal Governance and Decision Making to support a policy and institutional analysis of marine governance and the co-creation of decision-making approaches to aid marine planning. This post will involve travel to facilitate extensive collaboration with partners at PML, Plymouth University and Biosphere and Marine Park partners in South East Asia, and also involve supporting training programmes to increase capacity in the relevant skills. The post-holder will join a multi-disciplinary team on the project including (including marine sciences, evidence synthesis, geography, psychology, epidemiology, and environmental/health economics) based at the University of Exeter Campuses in Exeter & Truro. Three PhD students will also be working closely with the new post holder.
All candidates must have a PhD in a discipline related to the post and relevant research methods experience in Environmental social sciences/human geography.
