We are seeking to appoint a Research Fellow to work with Professor Taane Clark and Professor Martin Hibberd on whole genome sequence data of Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine’s headquarters in London.

The post-holder will analyse genomic and sample meta data to understand the phylogeny, patterns of transmission and drug resistance mechanisms of the sequenced strains.

The successful applicant will have a PhD in bioinformatics or a closely related field, demonstrated expertise and excellent analytical and computation skills applied to the analysis of large ‘omic datasets, demonstrated experience and skill in establishing sequencing or other ‘omic data analysis pipelines, demonstrated analytical skills for genome-wide association studies, advanced programming skills in java, C++, perl, R or another computing language, astrong background and publication record compatible with experience, interest in drug resistance and transmission of infectious diseases especially tuberculosis. The post is funded by the Medical Research Council from 1st October 2017 until 31st March 2019. The salary will be on the Academic Grade 6 scale in the range £38,533 to £43,759 per annum (inclusive of London Weighting). The post will be subject to the LSHTM terms and conditions of service.  Annual leave entitlement is 30 working days per year, pro rata for part time staff. In addition to this there are discretionary “Director’s Days”. Membership of the Pension Scheme is available.
