Detail information about job PDRA in Modelling of Flexible Materials for Adsorption Processes. Terms and conditions vacancy

A 2 year fixed term post is available in the School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh to work on the EPSRC funded project on Cation-Controlled Gating for Selective Gas Adsorption over Adaptable Zeolites. The successful applicant will join a team at St Andrews, Edinburgh and Bath with the aim of understanding and applying adaptable zeolites as selective adsorbents for fuel-related molecules. The consortium will develop the use of flexible zeolites whose pore size can be modified by cation exchange or which exhibit cation gating effects [see Chem. Mater. 2014, 26, 2052-2061; Nature, 2015, 524, 74-78; J. Phys. Chem. C, 2016, 120, 19662]. This will be achieved by combining synthetic, structural and adsorption studies at St Andrews with Chemical Engineering (Edinburgh) and Modelling (Bath, Edinburgh).

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development of new models of adsorption column dynamics in the presence of structural changes in the adsorbent materials developed at the University of St Andrews and their validation based on experimental systems (zero length column, volumetric and calorimetric) available at the University of Edinburgh. The models will be used to determine the physical parameters associated with equilibrium, kinetics and structural changes to be compared with predictions from molecular simulations carried out at the Universities of Bath and Edinburgh. The column models will then be used to predict the separation performance for several mixtures and validated experimentally primarily using the dual piston pressure swing adsorption apparatus.

The successful candidate should have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in Chemical Engineering or other relevant field and have extensive experience in modelling adsorption dynamics. Experience with process optimization is desirable. The post is expected to start as soon as possible.

Previous applicants need not re-apply.
