Are you seeking challenging in-house legal work in a fast-paced and ambitious business? Can you lead a team of advisers and administrators providing professional support and advice on student governance matters?

We are recruiting a Head of Student Governance to advise the University on cases involving student disciplinaries, fitness to practise, complaints and appeals, and to manage a team providing administrative and advisory support throughout the operation of these procedures.

We are seeking a 3-5 years’ PQE Solicitor or Barrister with experience in student governance matters, Higher Education disputes, or comparable work such as complaints-handling or regulatory work. You will require confidence in delivering practical advice to academics and senior management across a wide range of student governance issues. The ability to identify and analyse risks and evidence is critical.

You must be ready to handle complex and sensitive matters, and to advise on procedural and substantive issues. You will be required to balance the interests of a range of internal and external stakeholders, advising on specific cases and broader policies and practices.

You will also be responsible for managing the Student Governance team’s workload, performance and progression. You will report to the Director of Academic Services, and you will work closely with the Head of Legal Services and the legal and compliance team in improving processes and practices across the institution.

We are looking for talented, dynamic, resilient, and enthusiastic individuals who would like to pursue their next career step in their in-house legal career.  To be successful in this position, you will be required not only to give quality advice, but most importantly, to have the personal attributes and capability to bring your people together, getting the best out of every individual while building a strong, shared ethos. In return we will give you access to our dedicated programme of in-house training and support, as well as great package of benefits, opportunities for development and progression, and the chance to make a real mark on our business.
