The Paediatric Solid Tumour Biology and Therapeutics Team under the leadership of Professor Louis Chesler, MD, PhD, FRCPCH, is internationally recognized and at the forefront of the field of developing novel mouse models and using molecular biology and preclinical imaging analyses to better understand childhood solid tumours. Importantly, we then specialize in using this knowledge to design and test new drug and new drug combination treatments. It is our ultimate goal to translate our preclinical findings into the paediatric clinic to increase the survival of children with cancer.
We currently have an exciting opening for an experienced Scientific Officer speciaising in in vitro techniques to provide technical expertise and support towards the team’s paediatric cancer biology project portfolio with a specific interest in investigating novel targeted mechanisms to treat drug resistant and bone marrow metastatic disease.
The successful candidate will be highly competent at undertaking IHC, protein expression analysis, IF, Western blots and RNA extraction/cDNA quantification experiments and must have demonstrable experience and a track record in molecular biology, tissue culture, lentivirus preparations and cell culture manipulation including transduction/transfection as well as other standard in vitro technologies. This is an exciting position and the successful candidate will be able to develop and enhance their skills in a critical area of childhood cancer research.
Whilst not essential it would be advantageous if the successful applicant has knowledge of or an interest in animal work and a potential willingness to assist and develop skills in the in vivo setting.
Accurate record keeping, and project management, preferably within the pre-clinical setting and a keen interest in the field of cancer research and therapeutics is highly desirable.
The appointment will be on a Fixed Term Contract for up to 2 years in first instance with substantive extensions possible dependent upon funding. The starting salary will be in the range of £21,266 - £31,602 per annum inclusive based upon relevance of skills and experience.
