The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for research in tropical diseases. Through the creation of effective links with governments, organisations and institutions and by responding to the health needs of communities, LSTM aims to promote improved health, particularly for people of the less developed/resource poorest countries in the tropics and sub-tropics. 

The Research Management Services team requires a Research Applications Officer who will play a leading role in the coordination, preparation and submission of research funding applications made by LSTM, providing comprehensive support to academics. The Research Applications Officer will provide guidance on funding body requirements and best practice and ensure adherence to internal policies and procedures for proposal submission. The role will work with academic staff across the broad spectrum of LSTM departments and their national and international partners on all aspects of proposal development and submission.

The ideal candidate will be familiar with the funding environment for research in the UK and internationally and have developed research proposals or grant applications (including budgets) for UK Research Councils, NIHR, European Funding, or similar and must be qualified to degree-level or equivalent experience in a business-related field with evidence of continued professional development.

You must be able to demonstrate your experience of contributing to research proposals and budget development. Your ability to show discretion and maintain confidentiality along with excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills will be critical to collaborate with partners, academics and leading/ directing discussions in meetings. Your aptitude for high levels of numeracy and ease of working on spreadsheets are essential to be successful in this role.
