As part of a major investment in Anatomy, The College of Medical & Dental Sciences of The University of Birmingham wishes to make up to two substantive academic appointments to the post of Lecturer in Anatomy. We are seeking to appoint ambitious and dynamic individuals who wish to pursue academic careers in research and teaching or mainly teaching. Teaching responsibilities of successful candidates will be specifically in (Human) Anatomy. Proven experience in teaching of Anatomy in lecture settings, prosectorium/dissecting room and small group tutorials in either of the following disciplines, medicine, dentistry and/or anatomical sciences will be an advantage.
Candidates will be expected to conduct their research in an area of their choosing. Candidates with experience in fields of curriculum design (medicine or dentistry), learning technologies (CAL), delivery of teaching by electronic media etc. are also encouraged to apply.
Irrespective of research inclinations, the successful candidate will be expected to carry out (some but not all of) the following activities:
- Pursue personal research including developing research ideas and winning support, including financial support.
- Plan, publish and/or execute high quality research
- Project manage research activities, and/or supervise other research staff
- Present findings in high quality publications and conference proceedings
- Develop novel methodologies and techniques appropriate to the type of research being pursued
- Supervise and examine PhD students, both within the institution and externally
- Provide expert advice to staff and students within the discipline
- Apply knowledge in a way which develops new intellectual understanding
- Develop and make substantial contributions to knowledge transfer, and enterprise (including business engagement, public engagement) and similar activity that is of manifest benefit to the College and the University.
Full time starting salary is normally in the range £39,324 to £46,924. With potential progression once in post to £52,793 a year.
