Detail information about job PhD Studentship: Residues Pre-treatment for a Better Performance as Feedstock in Advanced Thermal Treatments under a Circular Waste-to-bioeconomy Scenario. Terms and conditions vacancy
To celebrate the University's research successes, the University of Hull is offering one full-time UK/EU PhD Scholarship (or International Fees Bursary) for candidates applying for the following project in the field of multidisciplinary Chemical Engineering research.
PhD Title: “Residues pre-treatment for a better performance as feedstock in advanced thermal treatments under a circular waste-to- bioeconomy scenario.”
Application Closing Date: 2nd October
PhD Start Date: 29thJanuary 2018.
Supervisor: Dr. Vasiliki K Skoulou; [email protected], (0) 1482 465116. School of Engineering and Computer Science, University of Hull.
Co-supervisors: Dr Sharif H. Zein; Reader in Biorefinery Processes and Reaction Engineering, Chemical Engineering, School of Engineering and Computer Science and Prof Daniel Parsons; Professor in Sedimentology/ Director of Energy and Environment Institute School of Environmental Sciences , University of Hull.
The successful candidate will develop new techniques and processes for the pre-treatment of waste sources (lignocellulosic residues and/or other waste) with a particular aim to apply in bioenergy and biomaterials production under the biorefinery concept.
The Project
This research project will focus in the exploitation of waste sources (lignocellulosic residues and other types of waste) or co-exploitation with conventional fuels in bioenergy/biomaterials production systems. Such value added offer advantages such as resource efficiency, improved waste management, increased renewables share in power generation and resource production sectors.
Working in a multidisciplinary research environment you will make use of our extensive materials characterisation and novel thermal treatment facilities at the University of Hull. The research will guide new approaches in the pre-treatment of waste sources to upgrade to useful feedstock for bioenergy/biomaterials and create opportunities for a step change in this research area.
The successful candidate will commence their studies within Chemical Engineering at the University of Hull and work in the B3 Group (Dr V.Skoulou) and will closely collaborate with Bioref Group (Dr S. Zein). The candidates will also have the opportunity to take part in international conferences abroad and might expected to spend limited time in research facilities in UK and abroad.
The successful candidate may also have the opportunity to spend time working alongside our industrial partners (Spencer Group and Energy Works) and other academic collaborators.
Minimum Candidate Requirements
This is an outstanding opportunity for the right individual to gain experience and expertise in a very important, rapidly growing field, which, together with multidisciplinary research environment, will provide significant future potential opportunities. The successful applicant will have a 1st or 2.1 class degree in chemical engineering/ chemistry, or a closely related subject, with excellent writing, communication, presentation and organization skills.
