Detail information about job Faculty Research Strategy Manager. Terms and conditions vacancy

We are looking for a highly self-motivated professional with a proven track record in research strategy management to support a combined step change in research funding activity and coordination of research support activities across the Faculty of Medicine & Health Sciences (FMHS) at the University of Nottingham.

This new role provides the exciting opportunity to make a real and visible contribution to the success of our research strategy in coordinating delivery of specific objectives within FMHS as the largest faculty in the University, aligned to the University’s ambitious vision as a leading research-intensive university.

Our Faculty has research expertise across medicine and health sciences, life sciences and (uniquely in the Midlands) veterinary medicine and science. You will be proactively involved in specialist coordination for the wider-ranging research activities within FMHS and advising on the strategic planning, management and administration of all research strategy activities.

In this role your main responsibilities include:

  • Research Strategy and Management
  • Planning for Research Excellence Framework
  • Research Management Reporting
  • Research Policy

You will be responsible for coordinating and continually improving faculty processes and reporting to support the development and implementation of research strategy, including the analysis and interpretation of research metrics and the proactive introduction of mechanisms and strategies to maximise research benefit. You will also play a key role in reporting on pre-and post-award processes within the Schools, liaising closely with key colleagues in Financial Management and Research and Innovation to ensure the faculty understanding of applications and awards, and supporting the faculty to remove potential barriers to application development and successful award management. Working across FMHS, the post-holder will help ensure compliance with key research policy areas, including Open Access requirements and research data management requirements.

With a relevant degree plus significant hands on experience in a similar/related role or a proven track record of extensive relevant work experience, you will have an understanding of the latest developments in research policy and an in-depth knowledge of research management, including the research application lifecycle and research metrics. You must have excellent IT skills with strong analytical capabilities to manage and interpret complex datasets and experience of providing regular briefings and reports to senior management. Ideally, you will have experience of managing Research Excellence Framework (REF) preparation and submission and demonstrable experience of pre- and post- award support in a research context.

You will have demonstrated a high degree of initiative and a professional and proactive approach to problem-solving and continual improvement of research planning and reporting processes. You will also have the necessary confidence and communication skills and insight into the research culture of Higher Education to work collaboratively with researchers and research management colleagues across the University and other internal and external stakeholders.

This is a full time, permanent post.
