A full-time Clinical Research Associate (Research Registrar) is required to work on an exciting project funded by the NIHR Moorfields BRC and a prestigious NIHR grant in support of a Rare Diseases Translational Research Collaboration and joint industrial partner PTC Therapeutics Inc., USA.

The overriding aim of this research project is to robustly establish the natural history of the visual loss seen in Usher Syndrome, the most common cause of deaf-blindness worldwide, utilising our unique patient base and investigational facilities, with a view to starting early phase clinical trials for new small molecule drugs.

The successful applicant will have gain unparalleled expertise in deep phenotyping, including microperimetry, advanced colour vision testing, SD-OCT, fundus autofluorescence, electrophysiology, dark adaptation and adaptive optics. He/she will obtain blood samples from probands and other family members as required, and perform qRT-PCR, biochemical assays and whole metabolome testing.

There is scope to make massive discoveries on the natural history of Usher syndrome and publish in high-impact peer reviewed journals extensively.

The position is funded for a period of 2 years in the first instance.

Essential criteria include BSc, candidates will demonstrate competency in Ophthalmology equivalent to 2nd year registrar, other allied clinical scientists (orthoptists and optometrists will be equally considered). The individual must be organized, hard-working, have good general ophthalmology and computer IT skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Database Administration) experience with computer environments such as Matlab, and statistical knowledge (SPSS,JMP, R or equivalent).
