We are recruiting an English Language and Academic Skills Leader to join our team at UWE Bristol’s International College.

Your main responsibilities will be:

  • Overseeing the effective delivery, assessment and development of the English Language and Academic Skills (ELAS) modules across Foundation Certificate, International Year One and Pre-Masters programmes on the Business, Law & Social Sciences and the Science & Engineering Pathways
  • Overseeing the effective delivery, assessment and development of a number of Enhancement Modules, including British Society & Culture and Personal Development & Pre-Study Skills
  • Overseeing the effective delivery, assessment and development of the Preparatory English courses
  • Maintaining academic oversight of all modules delivered by the ELAS team
  • Overseeing the effective delivery of the tutorial system
  • Lime managing a team of 4 permanent teachers, a learning support tutor and approximately 6 sessional teachers/tutors
  • Providing academic leadership to the teaching team and Module Coordinators
  • Providing academic coordination for a designated number of modules in the role of Module Coordinator
  • Delivering ELAS modules, with a normal teaching load of 10 hours per week
  • Marking formative and summative assessments, providing feedback to students, writing progress reports and liaising with stakeholders
  • Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance, progress and performance
  • Providing academic and pastoral support to students through the College’s tutorial system
  • Liaising with teachers, tutors and support staff on the academic needs, performance and welfare of students and providing/arranging the necessary support
  • Liaising with the partner university to develop relations and identify learning/social opportunities for our students
  • Contributing to, implementing and driving forward the College’s Learning, Teaching and Assessment Strategy
  • Contributing to and implementing the College’s Quality Assurance and Enhancement Action Plan
  • Representing the college at appropriate events and meetings
  • Participating in continuous professional development
  • Carrying out Senior Management Duties
  • Any other duties as required from time to time by the Academic Director or College Director

About you

You will enjoy working with international students, be customer-orientated and performance driven. In addition you will have:

Essential

  • A Bachelor’s degree and a CELTA
  • Significant experience of teaching EAP to international students ( preferably on Business, Law, Social Sciences and / or Science and Engineering pathways in UK further and / or higher education)
  • Experience of providing academic and pastoral support to students in one to one and group tutorials
  • Experience of line management; preferably of both permanent and sessional teaching staff
  • Experience of academic leadership / academic co-ordination and support
  • Experience of quality assurance in UK further and / or higher education
  • Ability to develop and update teaching and assessment material
  • Administrative skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and TurnItIn UK) and experience of working within a Virtual Learning Environment
  • Strong organisational and record keeping skills Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines

Desirable

  • A Master’s degree in TEFL or Applied Linguistics / DELTA / PGCE in TEFL
